As the bulk of the Western Isles squad participating at this years’ NatWest Games in Bermuda prepared to fly out on the first leg of their adventure, they were met at Stornoway airport by Ian Angus MacKenzie,Chief Executive of Harris Tweed Hebrides.

With many of the athletes being accommodated by the families of fellow competitors in ‘home-stay’ arrangements, an ambassador being appointed to each team to liaise with the organisers to ensure everything runs smoothly , and several important functions to attend; in true Hebridean fashion a proper “thank-you” was deemed in order.

To this end, the largest manufacturer of perhaps the most famous cloth in world, donated an impressive quantity of jacket-length tweeds to be handed over as gifts to their hosts.

Delighted to be associated with such an iconic brand, Chairman of the Western Isles Island Games Association, Councillor Iain Morrison accepted the beautifully presented tweed on behalf of the squad.

“Hospitality and friendliness are by-words for the reception we would expect anyone visiting these Islands to receive, and the same is undoubtedly true of Bermuda and the Bermudians”.

“As tokens of appreciation for the efforts our hosts have gone to,to make our stay possible, what better than a trademark  recognised as the benchmark for the finest quality across the world?”. commented chairman Morrison.

The party head to Gatwick, via Inverness, this afternoon; meeting up with their mainland-based colleagues this evening before flying across the Atlantic tomorrow.
