18 May 2015: British XC Series Race 3

Top 3 in the race

Super chuffed to take 2nd yesterday at Rd 3 of the British Mtb series... I was pretty happy with the outcome given the strong field and tough wee course!

There was about 200m of climbing per lap and they were sure as hell hurting by lap 5!

I had a really good rest this week as I woke up with a cold on Tuesday and completely bunged up all week so I was surprised to feel comfortable with the race leaders on lap 1. Sally Bigham, Alice Barnes and I went into lap 2 together but I ended up being 3rd man into a descent and got held up meaning Sally got away. My bike was amazing on the descents, I was literally thinking to myself "thank you so much MacInnes Brothers for buying it for me" on the descents as it was so smooth and floaty. It's a trek superfly full suss and I have tried out about 6 different stems on it with varying lengths and drops (10mm here, a couple of degrees there) but I finally have my position spot on. I just tried to use the bike to my advantage and then be smooth on the climbs and not splutter too much.

On lap 5 I was thinking eek, I'm still in 2nd, don't lose it now and I could hear that Mariske Strauss had moved into 3rd so I just worked up the climbs and did everything I could to maintain my position.... a little bit too much at one point when I came clean off my bike after getting friendly with a tree but it reminded me to calm down and be smart! So despite losing a few seconds to a crash I finished second, yaye!

Sally Bingham was a different class and had a stonking race. Ace to race such an incredible athlete. Congrats to the rest of the podium girls too, Mariske Strauss, Alice Barnes and Cherie Vale.

Next stop... Czech this coming weekend for my first World cup.... terrified! I'll be going from racing at the front of the grid this weekend to being at the back of a grid of 80 odd girls. But you have to start somewhere right? Patience is the name of the game
